Hair is constantly renewed. The life cycle of hair is about five years for women and three years for men. Hair grows during the first phase, known as the “anagen” phase, then stabilizes during the “catagen” and “telogen” phases, before shedding in the “exogen” phase. On average, we lose around 100 hairs a day. Excessive shedding can be identified by a noticeable amount of hair on clothing.
Various factors can exacerbate this process, leading to thinning areas. This condition, called alopecia, occurs when hair follicles no longer function properly. Several causes include :
- Genetic predisposition and heredity
- Hormonal changes, particularly during puberty and menopause
- Stress and lack of sleep
- Aging
- Certain medications
- Skin trauma
- Nutritional deficiencies
